Register An Assorted Breed Dog

Register a Mixed Breed Dog

A mixed-breed dog's heritage includes two or more pure breeds. Dogs that are considered pure-bred are recognized by registry clubs such as the American Kennel Club as having met breed standards and a recordable lineage. Although mixed breeds cannot meet a breed standard, they can be registered with several registry clubs. Registration of a mixed breed allows the dog to enter club-sponsored competitions.

Instructions

American Kennel Club and United Kennel Club (UKC)

1. Take your dog to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered. The AKC and UKC only accept spayed or neutered dogs for mixed breed registration.

2. Fill out the AKC Canine Partners listing or UKC Limited Privilege application. This is found on their websites, which are linked in the References section. A small fee is required.

3. Follow the instructions closely when filling out the application(s). For example, the AKC requires naming rules be followed; you can only use 36 characters. Submit your application when you finish.

American Mixed Breed Obedience Registration

4. Spay or neuter your dog. AMBOR requires veterinary certification of spaying or neutering.

5. Become a member of AMBOR. This form can be completed at the same time as the dog's registration, which can be accessed in the Resources section.

6. Fill out the registration form completely. Information requested on the form includes owner's name, dog's name, gender and birth date.

North American Mixed Breed Registry

7. Fill out the application for registry found on the NAMBR website, which is linked in the Resources section.

8. Include information about the dog's breed mixes and parents if known. Also include the dog's name and owner information.

9. Send the application by mail with the registration fee.
