Teacup piglets require a lot of care.
Typically, teacup piglets are weaned at 5 weeks old and available for adoption at 6 weeks old. Teacup potbellied pigs reach their full adult size at 2 to 3 years of age and typically weigh 40 to 65 pounds. These pigs are generally easy to maintain and can live for up to 20 years.
Instructions
1. Establish a space in your home for your piglet. Before you bring your piglet home, choose a small room or nook in your home for your piglet's bed and belongings. Place the piglet's bed along with its food and water dishes in this space. Then, fill the litter box with pine chips or shredded newspaper and add that to the space.
2. Bond with your piglet. Once you bring your piglet home, you must make it feel at home. Your piglet is a baby animal and needs to feel safe and secure. Give it time to adjust to you and your family. Use treats to lure your piglet close to you and allow it to smell you and touch her. Do not pressure your piglet to be near you. Building trust and affection takes time.
3. Take your piglet to the veterinarian. Find a veterinarian that is able to care for exotic pets such as teacup piglets. Get all necessary shots for your pet. In addition, it is recommended that you have your piglet spayed between the ages of 6 weeks and 3 months.
4. Feed your teacup piglet appropriately. Like many other domesticated animals, teacup pigs can gain weight easily. To prevent excessive weight gain, purchase foods specially designed for small piglets. Such food can be purchased at pet food stores and livestock feed stores. If you cannot find appropriate piglet feed in your area, you can order feed from online suppliers.
