Chain link makes a sturdy, lightweight dog kennel.
Dog kennels can be built from a number of materials, although one of the most common is chain link. Chain link is a lightweight fencing product, constructed in a woven manner that makes it strong and durable. Commercially available dog kennels can cost well over $500, but you can build your own chain-link dog kennel for a fraction of the cost.
Instructions
1. Measure the area you've chosen for the kennel, placing a fence marker every six feet along the perimeter in the shape of a box. Push the marker into the ground so it doesn't get accidentally moved as you erect the fence. Fence markers can be purchased at most home improvement stores.
2. Hammer one T-post at each marker flag. Use the sledgehammer to drive the posts at least 2 feet into the ground to keep the fence from falling over if the dog jumps on it.
3. Lay one chain-link panel against one side of the T-posts, attaching the panel at the top and bottom of each post with chain-link connectors. Add the second and third panel on either side of the first, attaching connectors to the T-posts and where the panels meet to keep the dog from pushing the panels apart.
4. Close off the remaining side with the gate panel. Use connectors to secure the gate to the posts and at the corners. Open the gate and make sure it swings freely.
5. Place your dog in the kennel and allow him to explore his new enclosure for a few minutes. If the dog discovers any gaps in the kennel, add more connectors to keep him from escaping.
