Dog Behavior training Training Clubs In Michigan

Dog obedience training can prepare your dog for show competitions.


While training your dog can make it behave and obey your commands, it also helps to establish a bond between you and your dog that can be invaluable. It is important for your dog to respect you--the leader of its pack--to prevent unfavorable, dominant behaviors that can put you and your family at risk. Obedience-training clubs are great places for you to learn gain respect from your dog and prepare it for dog shows and competitions.


Southern Michigan Obedience Training Club


Established in 1948, the Southern Michigan Obedience Training Club (SMOTC) has been training dogs, conducting training classes and hosting American Kennel Club (AKC) trials for approximately 60 years. According to the SMOTC website, it is the only AKC member obedience-training club in southeastern Michigan, and it trains both mixed and full breeds. The trainers teach general puppy socialization to establish good manners; novice AKC obedience training to prepare your dog to compete in the AKC novice obedience ring; rally training for AKC obstacle course competitions and therapy-dog training for dogs that will provide therapeutic service visits at nursing homes, children's centers and hospitals.

Ann Arbor Dog Training Club


The Ann Arbor Dog Training Club (AADTC) was founded in 1967. The instructors offer classes in puppy socialization, indoor house manners, agility, tracking and AKC obedience and rally training. You can visit and observe any of the classes at its six-acre facility, without your dog, to determine if the training techniques match your and your dog's needs. In addition to its training classes, AADTC offers seminars, such as canine problem solving and coaching the canine athlete.

Companion Dog Training Club of Flint


The Companion Dog Training Club is a member of the AKC and has trained dog owners for more than 40 years. The instructors provide basic companion and household training, as well as AKC training for tracking, obedience, agility and rally competitions. The club also teaches children under the age of 16 prepare their dogs to perform in 4-H competitions. The Companion Dog Training Club hosts obedience trials, sanctioned matches and titling matches in accordance with AKC rules and regulations.
