Erect Concrete Pads For Dog Dog houses

Your furry friend needs to spend time with its pack leader--you.

Dog kennels allow outside exercise time for your pet, which also keeps them out of your garden and prevents them from escaping. Concrete pads prevent the dog from digging and provide an easily cleanable surface. Feces should be picked up daily and the kennel runs hosed down on a weekly basis, and disinfected monthly. Use the concrete calculator to determine how much material to buy before beginning the construction of your concrete pad.

Instructions

1. Mark the area of the kennel pad by pounding in stakes at the corners and running string between the stakes, wrapping the string several times around each stake.

2. Dig 4 inches deep across the whole pad area. Dig the edges as horizontal as possible.

3. Edge the pad area with 2x6 studs. Toenail the 2x6s together if necessary. Often, pouring the gravel against the 2x6s will be sufficient to hold them upright.

4. Pour 2 inches of gravel evenly across the dug-out pad area.

5. Mix concrete by adding 1 part cement, 2 parts sand and 3 parts gravel together in a wheelbarrow. Use the shovel to mix thoroughly.

6. Add half a bucket of water and fold the mixture with the shovel. Continue adding water until you have a thick, uniform mixture.

7. Shovel the concrete into the 2x6 frame, filling to the top of the stud frame. Use an extra stud to place across the top of the frame and wiggle the stud back and forth across the top of the pad to level the concrete.
