Stainless steel
silverware is a nice addition to any home, because the flatware is more durable and long lasting than those made from aluminum or another material. This type of silverware comes in a variety of designs, weights, and styles. There are several different things to consider before you buy stainless steel silverware.
Instructions
1. Decide on a type of weight: medium, heavy, or extra heavy. Medium is also known as lightweight or economy weight and is good for daily use. Heavy is fairly durable and strong, while extra heavy is the best available and typically used by restaurants and hotels because of its ability to withstand constant use.
2. Select the design of flatware that you'd like, keeping your own lifestyle in mind. A more traditional and old-fashioned pattern is nice if you plan on entertaining often or have company often. If you're more family oriented, a casual pattern is a better choice. Also, keep in mind that your flatware should match the style of dishes you own.
3. Pick the quality of stainless steel flatware that you want. The most common type is known as 18/8, which contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel in addition to the stainless steel, with these elements making it more durable and nicer looking. You can also find 18/10, which is more expensive and stronger.
4. Determine how many pieces of flatware you actually need. Singles and couples without children usually rely on 20-piece starter sets, which include 4-5 complete place settings. Those with children need larger settings of up to 45 pieces, and there are even larger sets available for those who need it.
5. Hold the pieces in your hand before you make a decision, turning the pieces over and seeing how they fit in your hand. The best stainless steel silverware are the sets that not only fit your lifestyle, but fit your hand and feel comfortable, especially if you plan on using the set regularly.
