It is important to make your dog as comfortable as you can. A dog kennel is a fantastic way to keep your dog safe and secure, whether at home or on the go, but you need to be sure it is comfortable. Creating a dog kennel that is comfortable like a den will create a place where your dog will go whenever he needs to or wants to.
Instructions
1. Decide where you want the dog kennel to be. Remember that your dog needs to have an area of your home that is just his. This is a number one point when it comes to whether or not your dog will be happy and healthy, so be sure that the kennel is in a place that he can call his own. This can be a mud room, a corner of your kitchen or a spare bedroom. Just be sure that the area is one where your dog can always be and a place he can always have access to.
2. Set up the dog kennel. If possible, put it in a corner of the room. This will allow it to be more den-like in that it will have shelter on at least two sides.
3. Create a roof for the kennel. Some dog kennels already have roofs because of the way that they are made. If your dog kennel has open bars on the top of it, add something on the top, such as a blanket or even a flat table top so that it appears that there is a roof.
4. Cover the other side of the kennel with a blanket or some other covering. The point here is to make the kennel into a dark den. The only open and clear side should be the front, where the dog can go in and out.
5. Layer the inside of the kennel with lots of dog blankets or towels. In a real den, your dog would have plenty of room to dig and bury his favorite toys and treats, so you can use blankets or towels to mimic this for him in his kennel.
6. You can also have another blanket to throw over the front of the kennel if you are going to have your dog in there for a long period of time with the door shut.
