Pit Bulls don't deserve their bad reputation
Pit bulls and Pit bull mixes make up a large percent of the canine population of the greater Philadelphia area. Sadly, that also means they also make up a large percent of homeless dogs. Fortunately, the Philly area has many fine pet rescue shelters that can help match you with your next best friend. It is a long process, but worth the wait.
Instructions
1. Ask yourself whether you can take on a pit bull. It will be like adopting a kid. If you are ready, go on to Step Two.
2. Contact your veterinarian about getting a character reference letter.
3. Get the word out that you are lookng to adopt a pit bull. Tell your friends, neighbors, vet, local animal shelters and any trusted business associates. If your local animal shelter does not currently have Pit Bulls, they can get you in contact with PAWS, with the Delaware County SPCA or It's a ROTTnPITy rescue group, which usually has netered, housetrained Pit Bulls. If you have online capability, go to Petfinder.com, which all of the Greater Philadelphia dog rescues link to.
4. Download and fill out the application forms. This takes about an hour, at least, but you can take all the time you need to fill them out.
5. Wait for a volunteer or shelter worker to contact to you make an appointment for a house check. You will be asked more questions.
6. Visit the pit bull they select as a match for you. All of your family members, including your current dog, need to go meet this dog.
7. Read over the contract they hand you and sign. Pay the adoption fees. Take home your new best friend.
