Dog Occasions In Minnesota

Dogs should rest between events.

Competing in a canine event gives both you and your dog time to bond, train, and work together. Minnesota abounds with events and finding the perfect one for you and your dog won't be difficult. Whether you compete in weight pulling, obedience, or hunting, your dog will benefit from working and learning a new skill.

Minnesota Mixed Breed Club

This dog practices his long down before a show.

Held every year in conjunction with the United German Shepherd Dog Alliance, the Minnesota Mixed Breed Club offers a United Kennel Club-sanctioned event with weight pull, rally-o, and obedience. Dogs must be registered with the United Kennel Club (UKC) in order to compete, but temporary listings for mixed breeds are welcome and offered.

Minnesota Mixed Breed Club LE Center Weight Pull

Weight pull quickly builds a sled dog's endurance.

Held in conjunction with the Red Pine Kennel Club, the Minnesota Mixed Breed Club offers a yearly weight pull. Weight pull tests the strength and endurance of dogs as they pull increasingly heavy weights a specified distance. This yearly pull is UKC sanctioned. Mixed breeds and pure-breds are welcome, but all dogs must be registered with the UKC.

United German Shepherd Dog Alliance

The United German Shepherd Dog Alliance hosts a conformation event for all breeds in Lake Elmo, Minn. In order to compete, all dogs must be registered with the UKC and pure-bred.

American Belgian Malinois Club

This Border Collie focuses intently on his next obstacle.

Held in Randolph, Minn., the American Belgian Malinois club hosts an all-breed, three-day agility trial. Agility tests the dexterity, obedience, and speed of dogs as they navigate an obstacle course off-lead with their handler. All trials are sanctioned by the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Great River Stockdog Club of Minnesota

This stock dog watches his target.

The Great River Stockdog Club of Minnesota hosts a two-day herding dog trial in Scandia, Minn. Herding allows your dog to showcase his calm, stable temperament and use his instincts in a safe, controlled environment. The AKC sanctions all trials in this event.

Bemidji Pet Expo

Held every summer in Bemidji, the Pet Expo hosts a number of competitions. DockDog, hunting trials, herding seminars, DiscDog, and freestyle contests abound. Admission is free. Vendors and entertainment line the streets of the two-day event.
