Instructions

Visit the World on Buford Highway, Atlanta, Ga.

1. Before you head to Buford Highway in Atlanta, either meet with a travel adviser or read up on the area online or in travel books. After pigging out at the Buford restaurants, you may want to tour some other areas of this beautiful Southern Peachtree State. Make sure you have one favorite place to visit for each family member. Atlanta is accessible by highway, air or train ,and there are many hotels, motels and inns at all price ranges.

2. Avail yourself of some of the diverse ethic restaurants on Buford Highway, including Latin American, Cuban, Dominican, Peruvian, Chinese, Ethiopian, Indian, Japanese, Malaysian, Korean, Mexican and Vietnamese establishments. While on the subject of food, Buford Highway Farmer's Market is one of the largest grocery stores that sells ethnic foods from Hispanic to Korean.

3. Put on your best walking shoes (and comfortable, cool clothing, if it's summer), and head to the Plaza Fiesta Shopping Center, which numbers 200 stores. An afternoon in the Hispanic Plaza Fiesta might include visits to unique clothing boutiques, vendors of silver jewelry and leather boots, a Mexican baker and, of course, more food stalls. Unless you are already missing home, stay clear of the Burlington Coat Factory and Marshall's.

4. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the area's Latin clubs, which feature salsa dancing. On the weekend, look for the big rainbow billboard that advertises the Buford Highway flea market. Inside, the goodies are just as colorful. Inexpensive home decor, jewelry, designer lookalikes, Atlanta souvenirs, perfumes and vintage velvet wall hangings are all in the mix. The market is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
