Start A Natural Pet Food Business

Starting an organic dog food business is a great way to earn income. People want to feed their dogs healthy foods in order to encourage good health and prevent unnecessary vet visits. Providing these people with an avenue for locating these foods can mean big profits for a dog food business owner.

1. Brainstorm ideas for the dog food business. Write each idea in the notebook on its' own page. Consider what to sell and where to sell the items. On-line? In shops? From home? Somewhere else?


2. Calculate the estimated cost for each idea, adding the information to the correct page. Each idea may cost more or less to implement, depending on the materials needed.


3. Estimate how long it will take to accomplish each idea in the notebook, adding this information to the corresponding page. Practice will shorten the amount of time each task will require.


4. Purchase tools and other necessities such as pans, ingredients and bone-shaped cookie cutters. Look for deals and keep all receipts.


5. Locate or create the recipes that will be used for the business. Test out each recipe on dogs you know to be sure that it will work. Consider how these can be altered for different flavorings and test again.


6. Consider a business name. It will be needed in order to make further decisions. Decide on packaging for the different types of dog food that will be made. Be creative, and consider tag designs as well. The business name will need to be added to the tag. Test these ideas out before implementation.


7. Make other important business decisions. Plan for things like pricing, advertising and bookkeeping, and be sure to talk with an accountant. Consider creating a budget, and be sure to stick to it. Create a file system. Consider if help will be needed, and how much of the budgeted money can be used for this purpose.


8. Visit city hall. Get all business licenses necessary to begin setting up the dog food business, and check zoning laws.
