A dog with vomiting and fever might have a medical condition
Vomiting is a natural dog behavior which often occurs after a dog has eaten grass or if the dog's stomach is empty. Slight fevers are treatable at home but a more severe fever, as well as repeated vomiting, might signal a medical problem.
Causes
Causes of dog vomiting with fever include coccidia, pancreatitis and kidney disease. Vomiting alone does not necessarily suggest a medical condition, but vomiting plus fever means your dog needs medical attention.
Prevention/Solution
Keeping your dog in a clean, warm environment, feeding a nutritious food and keeping your dog at a healthy weight can prevent infectious diseases and illnesses such as coccidia and pancreatitis.
Considerations
When both vomiting and fever are present, the owner should look for other signs of illness in his dog. Other symptoms include pain, weakness, depression, diarrhea and weight loss.
Treatment
A cool bath or cool washcloths help bring down fever in a dog. Withholding food and water can help mild vomiting. Severe vomiting can cause dehydration and a vet can administer IV fluids to a dehydrated dog.
Warning
A dog with repeated and persistent vomiting together with fever needs to see a vet. Untreated disease can often be fatal.
