Animals at boarding shelters rely on the staff for their care.
Pet owners who are required to travel out of town for business or personal reasons frequently entrust the care of their dog or cat to the staff at a local boarding kennel. While there, the animals must rely on the kennel staff to provide them with ample exercise, attention, food and water. Working at a boarding kennel requires experience with and compassion for animals, a flexible schedule, and a willingness to get dirty while cleaning up after the pets.
Instructions
1. Volunteer at animal shelters and boarding kennels. This will help you become familiar with the daily tasks that are required of the kennel staff and will also help you acclimate to a career working with animals.
2. Inquire about boarding kennel job openings by visiting several kennels in person and by calling various veterinarians or animal hospitals.
3. Scan the "help wanted" and pet-related classified advertisements in your local newspaper or the ones posted on regional online job banks. You can also locate nearby kennels by searching the members directory of pet care search engine PetCareServices.com.
4. Place your own "job wanted" ad in various pet-related locations, including pet stores, veterinarian offices and supermarkets. Be sure to indicate the amount of prior experience you have working with and caring for animals.
