In the state of Utah, those wanting to have a dog kennel must comply with the state regulations. The animal regulation coordinator not only sets the states standards, but also regulates regular monitoring and inspections of the licensed kennels.
Utah Laws Regarding Kennels
If a person doesn't have a hobby breeders license or a kennel license, you are only allowed to own up to four dogs. People who have more than four dogs usually have difficulties taking care of them as they should.
Fence Requirements
When having an outside kennel, the fence surrounding the area must be at least six feet tall, and there must be a specific area separate from the kennel for an exercise run.
The Kennel Building
The kennel building is to be used for reasons such as breeding, grooming and training exclusively of dogs. The Utah laws clearly state that the kennel must have appropriate ventilation to prevent lingering odors and help to provide adequate heating and cooling.
Keeping Large and Small Dogs Seperate
The law also states that its important to keep small dogs and puppies separated from the larger dogs to prevent any unnecessary fighting or abuse.
Proper Cage Sizes
Sometimes its necessary to keep a dog in a cage and the Utah laws explain that before this is done, deciding the adequate size for the cage is very important. The way the cage size is to be determined is to measure the dog from the base of his tail to the tip of his nose, then choose a cage that's both six inches larger in both width and length.
Maintaining The Kennel
When maintaining the kennel, you need to make sure the area is kept clean at all times, and keep fresh food and water available. If keeping an outside kennel, it's important to provide security against harmful insects and vermin. Dogs should always be treated as well as humans.
