Help Make Your Cat Cage A Structure

Cats are playful creatures that enjoy a variety of play stations throughout the house. Cats that are kept in a cage at times are no different, and should have access to toys, treats and interactive activities in their cage. With a variety of colors, activities and hiding places, your cat cage can become a palace.

Instructions

1. Clean out the current cat cage. Sanitize the shelves, base and litter pan with a mild bleach and water solution and rinse thoroughly. Replace the essential accessories that your cat must have, such as the litter pan, food bowl and water bowl.

2. Take inventory of the bedding, blankets toys and other accessories in the cat cage. Dispose of any worn or damaged toys. Thinks of how you want your cat's palace to look. Decide on a theme, color scheme or type of activities the cat enjoys.

3. Create a play area at the top of the cage by hanging various toys from the top of the cage. Keep them high enough that the cat needs to stretch and reach to play with the toys. This will provide the cat with exercise.

4. Build an edible plant station on the inside wall of the cat cage. Purchase wire cage mountable food bowls, and place small living cat grass and catnip plants in the bowls. Allow the cat to chew on the fresh greens.

5. Create a hiding place for your cat. Soft dome-shaped beds, tunneling cloth sacks and litter pan covers all work as secure hiding places. Make sure the hiding place is washable.

6. Place small cat toys on each level of the cat cage. Include fuzzy mice, crinkle mylar balls, plastic balls, catnip-filled plush toys and feather toys. Tie toys to the walls of the cat cage, with a little rubber string, so they can pull and tug at the toy with their teeth.

7. Hide cat treats in the cat cage. The cat can avoid boredom by searching through the cage for hidden treats such as semi-soft treats, crunchy dental treats, dried cat nip or bonito flakes. Hide treats in their sleeping area and hiding places.
