Miniature schnauzers
can benefit from a raw food diet.
The miniature schnauzer is a small breed of dog originally bred in Germany. Miniature schnauzers are one of the most popular breeds around the world due to their intelligence and docile temperaments. The breed is, however, plagued by a number of digestive and allergy issues often related to poor quality dog food. Feeding your miniature schnauzer a raw food diet is not particularly difficult and can alleviate a number health problems resulting from commercial dog food.
Instructions
1. Lay your whole chicken on a flat surface and cut into eight pieces. Cut your liver into four pieces and place one piece of liver and one chicken piece in a plastic freezer bag, freezing the meat until it's needed to feed your schnauzer. Whole, raw chicken provides meat and bones that help clean your dog's teeth and organ meats such as liver provide iron to help maintain a balanced diet. Miniature schnauzers are fairly small dogs and this amount of chicken and liver is adequate for each meal.
2. Place the vegetables and apple in your food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Add your vinegar and blend until smooth. Pour the vegetable mush into 1/4 cup capacity storage containers and place in the freezer. This mush gives your dog additional vitamins and minerals and can be thawed for each meal as necessary.
3. Remove one serving of meat and one serving of the mush from the freezer and allow it to thaw on the counter. Place the meat in the bottom of the bowl and spread the mush over the top to make sure your dog eats both and can't just push the veggies aside. Schnauzers can be picky eaters and coating the meat with the vegetable mixture prevents him from leaving the mush in the bowl.
4. Pour the flax seed, pet vitamin powder and fish oil over the meat and vegetables before serving. Flax seed is high in essential omega 3 fatty acids, while the vitamin powder provides all of the vitamins necessary in your pet's diet. Fish oil adds fat to the diet which helps improve coat quality and alleviate dry skin, which is a common concern in miniature schnauzers.
