Anyone who has a dog knows that it is not hard for ticks to find them. Most people also know dealing with ticks is not fun. Unfortunately, they are often difficult to avoid. If your dog goes into an area with tall grass, bushes or weeds, you can almost expect it to come out with at least one tick. These ticks can then be transferred back to your dog's kennel and your home, a sure recipe for unpleasantness. Be assured, though---there are methods to kill ticks on and around your dog.
Instructions
1. Remove all bedding from your dog's kennel and wash it on a normal setting using hot water.
2. Spray around and inside of the kennel with a flea- and tick-area spray. Adams Flea & Tick Yard Spray is an excellent choice. Other flea- and tick-area sprays are available under Resources. The Adams spray (and others like it) will kill and keep away fleas, ticks, flea eggs and larvae. Once sprayed, let it dry.
3. Use Frontline (or a similar product) on your dog to keep the ticks from getting back into the kennel. To apply Frontline to your dog, take one packet, squirt it directly onto your dog's skin between its shoulder blades (if you have a large dog, you should put half of the packet between the shoulder blades and half right above the tail), moving any hair in the way and rubbing in the ointment. The Frontline will stay wet for a day or two.
