British Bulldog Details

The British Bulldog, usually referred to as the English Bulldog, is a medium-sized breed known for its large, round head and stocky frame. Developed in the British Isles, the British Bulldog was bred to be "ferocious and courageous," according to the American Kennel Club. But the British Bulldog is now a gentle dog with a good temperament.


General Appearance


The British Bulldog must have a "heavy, low-slung body and massive head," according to the American Kennel Club. Its appearance must also suggest stability and strength.


Temperament


The British Bulldog is a good family dog and loves children. It is sensitive to "harsh words," according to K9obedience.com, and it may ignore its owner if it feels it has been unfairly treated.


Living Conditions


This dog is generally inactive and should live indoors. It does best in a temperate climate, as it can easily become cold and has difficulty cooling off in hot weather.


Health Problems


The British Bulldog suffers from a variety of health problems, including breathing difficulties, deafness, hip dysplasia, mange and other skin infections.


Exercise


This dog likes taking occasional walks, but it should not be over-exerted, especially in hot weather.
