The Very Best Flooring For Young puppies

Puppies are adorable but can be hard on your flooring.

One of the fastest ways to damage flooring is to allow new puppies on it for any length of time. Materials such as hardwood or carpet do not stand up to rigorous puppy behavior without constant maintenance. Puppy accidents can destroy the finish on some floors, and carpeting will stain and smell if puppy urine and feces remain for any length of time. Additionally, puppies will scratch and chew surfaces like carpet and wood.

Home Flooring

When you introduce a new puppy into the family, prepare a place where you can confine her while you are not supervising or playing with her. She will have accidents until she is house-trained. You also can expect an active puppy to spill water from her dish. For those reasons, keep her on a surface that can stand up to moisture and odor. You will need to sanitize the floor, so make sure that strong cleaners won't destroy the finish. Do not create an area for your puppy on carpet if at all possible. Appropriate places to confine your puppy would be rooms that have vinyl, linoleum, ceramic tile or stone flooring.

Rubber Flooring

Businesses such as dog-training facilities and day-care centers need an extremely durable floor that can provide shock absorption during training or playtime but is also safe and sanitary. Consider using a rolled rubber floor. You can seal the rubber flooring to repel bacteria and moisture; once sealed, the flooring is easy to clean and provides good traction.

Instant Kennel Flooring

This convenient, slab-type flooring is a good puppy floor solution. Reasonably priced, this fade-resistant floor conforms to any size and shape since it comes in rectangle-sized sections. You can easily clean and sanitize it, and the material is porous, allowing pet fluids to go right through. Generally made from plastic resins, instant kennel flooring is portable so you can move or enlarge the kennel floor area as your puppy grows. It will provide warmth and help keep bugs and pests away from her.

Considerations

Whether your puppy flooring is in a pet care facility or in your kitchen, be mindful of the fact that puppies require a lot of sleep when they aren't active. Be sure to provide a soft washable blanket or doggy bed at all times for puppies to sleep in.
