A modular dog kennel is a series of individual dog kennels built together for use in animal shelters, veterinary offices or the common backyard. The kennel is built to be a free-range caged-in area that provides a dog with a safe environment without the need for collar and chains, making the dog feel more comfortable during the time he will spend in the kennel. Kennels also provide a great place to keep your indoor dog when you're away from home and can easily be built to meet your pets' needs.
Instructions
1. Prep your frame pieces by measuring and cutting the 2-by-4 lumber pieces that will frame the bottom and top of the kennels. Following these dimension specifications, you will need 12 2-by-4s, each measuring 10 feet in length, and 12 2-by-4s, each measuring 5 feet in length.
2. Construct the frame by nailing and screwing the cut pieces to form a cube, with the 4-by-4 posts at each corner and the 2-by-4 posts forming the top and bottom edges. This step requires the assistance of another to hold the frame upright and in place while it is assembled.
3. Insert the three leftover 4-by-4 posts into the 5-foot sides of the kennels, specifically 1 foot, 7 inches from one of the other 4-by-4 post pieces. This post will serve as the support post for the kennel door.
4. Cover all areas between the frames with chain link fencing, except for the areas for the doors and the top and bottom of the modular dog kennel. Cut the chain link to fit using wire cutters and secure it to the posts using nails and screws.
5. Build your kennel doors by constructing three two-dimensional frames measuring 9 feet, 11 inches by 3 feet. Cover one side of the frame with chain-link fence.
6. Drill holes in the door frame and the door support. Affix the hinge pieces to each using the assistance of another to hold the door in place. Given the specifications, your door should have approximately a 1/2-inch gap separating the door frame from the kennel frame around all edges.
7. Affix the latch fixtures to the other side of the door and to the adjacent post to provide the ability to fasten the kennel doors and ensure more safety for your dog.
