Develop A Dog House With Kennel

A dog house and kennel will provide a safe place for your dog.

Constructing an outside kennel provides a safe area for your dog to play when you can not be with him. Before you begin construction of the dog house and kennel take into consideration your dog's size and needs. The kennel in this project is 8 by 8 feet.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Cut four of the two-by-fours to 36 inches long. Mark two as "A." and two as "B"

2. Cut two of the two-by-fours to 30 inches long. Mark as "C."

3. Cut two of the two-by-fours to 24 inches long. Mark as "D."

4. Cut two pieces of plywood to 24 inches wide and 36 inches tall at the front end and 30 inches tall at the back end. Mark as "E." These are the sides of the house. It is not a square cut since the front needs to be taller than the back to create a sloped roof.

5. Cut one piece of plywood to 36 by 36 inches. Cut an opening in the bottom middle large enough for the dog to go through. Mark as "F." This is the front of the house.

6. Cut one piece of plywood to 30 by 36 inches. Mark as "G." This is the back of the house.

7. Cut one piece of plywood to 24 by 36 inches. Mark as "H." This is the roof of the house.

8. Attach door latch to fence door.

Construction

9. Screw one "B" between two "A"s. This is the front frame.

10. Screw the other "B" between two "C"s. This is the back frame.

11. Screw "D" between the front and back frame at both ends.

12. Screw "F" to front.

13. Screw "G" to back.

14. Screw "E" to sides.

15. Screw "H" to top to create the sloped roof.

16. Finish the roof with 10-year shingles.

Kennel Construction

17.Remove all debris from kennel area.

18. Dig post holes at corners of area and two feet from the front left corner. The door will go between the the two front left posts.

19. Insert metal fence braces vertically through the ends of the eight-foot chain link fence sections.

20. Attach chain link fence to posts with metal clamp brackets.

21. Use 20-gauge wire to attach metal conduit 3 feet from ground level to strengthen the fence.

22. Attach door to the front left corner post with door attachments.

23. Put dog house inside the kennel.
