Siberian Husky Puppy Details

Siberian puppies require thorough training.

The Siberian Husky is a sled dog from northeast Asia with an energetic, eager-to-please demeanor. The breed is medium-sized with a thick coat of soft fur. Although bred to be a working-class animal, the breed has become popular as a family dog. It's important to know information about the puppy coming into your home.

Strong Instincts

Your Siberian puppy will come to you as a clean slate. All it will know is its basic instincts, which include a strong pack mentality and the urge to hunt and kill small game.

Size

Although your puppy will be a small bundle upon arrival, the average pup will grow to 20 to 23.5 inches at the shoulder and 30-60 pounds.

Noises

Your Siberian puppy will keep barking to a minimum, however the breed is known to howl from time to time.

Grooming

The husky's thick coat makes it more comfortable in cooler climates.

The puppy will require frequent brushing of its thick fur and will shed its seasonal coat in the spring and fall.

Sex

Depending on the sex of your puppy, you will have different training responsibilities. Because the breed is pack-oriented, males tend to take on the pack leader role and be more dominant, whereas females are quicker to submit.

Exercise

The Siberian puppy needs lots of exercise. The breed was used for pulling sleds across icy tundra; they have loads of energy to burn. A fenced yard and lots of walks are recommended to keep your pup well exercised and happy.
