The pit bull breed, which came to the United States in the mid-19th century, originated from a combination of terriers and bulldogs. Today, the pit bull is registered with the American Kennel Club as the American Staffordshire Terrier (Amstaff). In Britain the breed is registered with the United Kennel Club as the American Pit Bull Terrier. There are a several pit bull kennels in and near Arkansas.
