Whilst there are no German restaurants directly in Winchester, VA, there are plenty within an hour's drive in the nearby towns of Leesburg, Hagerstown and Shepherdstown. These inns and restaurants offer a variety of traditional German cuisine including German sausages such as bratwurst and currywurst. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Bavarian Inn
About an hour's drive from Winchester is the Bavarian Inn, located in Shepherdstown and overlooking the Potomac River. The German born Chef, Wolfgang Vomend, specializes in traditional Bavarian/European cuisine with such things as Bavarian Sausage and Sauerkraut and Wiener Schnitzel on the restaurant lunch menu. The Bavarian Inn has four dining rooms, The Potomac Room, The Hunt Room, which is decorated in Bavarian style with antler chandeliers, The Library and the Rathskeller for more casual dining. Outside dining is possible on the patio and terrace, and gourmet breakfasts are available daily. The Bavarian Inn requests guests not to wear shorts or sports attire when dining in rooms other than the Rathskeller or the outside patio.

Schmankerl Stube
Close to the Prime Outlets in Hagerstown, the Schmankerl Stube Bavarian restaurant is about one hour north of Winchester. Created by Charlie Sekula, a Bavarian native, the restaurant serves German beers such as Spaten Braeu and Bitburger in traditional beer steins as well as German cakes and coffee which can be enjoyed in the traditional biergarten, a large, open-air patio. The lunch menu offers such delicacies as Bayrischer Hackbraten, a Bavarian meatloaf, and Jägerschnitzel, a hunter style pork cutlet served with whipped potatoes and carrots.

Doner Bistro
Specializing in spiced, rotisserie cooked, beef and chicken with fresh salads and garlic and yogurt sauce, wrapped in specialty flat bread, the Doner Bistro is located in Leesburg, Virginia, about a 45 minute drive east of Winchester. German pilsner beers in bottles and on tap as well as non-alcoholic beverages and wine are all available in the restaurant. The Doner Bistro features live music on Saturdays and the first Fridays of the month and a lively Oktoberfest.
