Develop A Dog House For 2

Dog Houses for two can accommodate two dogs comfortably and are designed to keep dogs warm during the winter months and cool during the summer months. The design need not be fancy -- all that matters is that the house is well constructed and roomy enough for both occupants.

Instructions

Build a Doghouse for Two

1. Measure each dog that will be occupying the dog house. First measure the dogs' length. Add 12 inches to each dog's length for the width of the dog house. For example, if dog A is 18 inches long, the allotted space should be 30 inches and if dog B is 12 inches long the allotted space should be 24 inches, making the width of the dog house 54 inches.

2. Using the same measurements, add 18 inches to each dog's length for the length of the dog house. Using the same measurement as in step one, the base would be 66 inches long.

To get the appropriate height add 9 inches to your dog's measurement when sitting.

3. Create a frame for the base using pressure treated 2x4s. Create a box with the 2x4s with one in the middle for stability. Butt them together and use weather resistant screws to create the frame.

4. Use 3/4 inch plywood to create the floor. Cut the correct size or have the supply store cut it for you. Secure the flooring to the frame you have created using weather resistant screws.

5. Repeat the steps for creating the frame to create the sides using the height and length measurements you took before you started. Once again, use weather resistant screws to secure the sides to the base of the dog house.

6. To create the back and the front use the height measurements you got earlier and use a 3/4 inch piece of plywood to cut out the shape. To create a sloped roof use a t-square to draw a peak and cut the pieces out using a saber saw.

7. Cut out a hole in the front panel to create an entrance. Measure your dog while standing and add six inches to his height from the top of his head while standing.

8. Place the front and back panels on and secure them to the base and sides, using weather resistant screws. Cut a 2x2 to the length between the front and back panel. It should fit securely between the two panels. Have a friend hold the 2x2 in place while you nail it into place to begin creating the roof.

9. Measure the distance from one side to the 2x2 and cut 2 panels from 3/4 inch plywood in the appropriate length. Nail the panels to the house to create a pitched roof.
