British Bulldog Health Information

English Bulldogs make very loving and loyal pets.


The English Bulldog is known to be gentle and protective, according to the American Kennel Club. They do not require a great deal of exercise or grooming. Bulldogs may be prone to certain health problems.


Breathing


Dog Breed Info Center indicates that English Bulldogs tend to have breathing problems and in some cases their windpipes are small.


Heat


English Bulldogs tend to be sensitive to heat, according to the American Kennel Club. According to EngBulldogs, time spent outside should be limited when the temperature exceeds 80 degrees F. or when there is high humidity.


Skin


English Bulldogs are susceptible to skin conditions, such as skin acne, Demodicosis (mange), fold dermatitis and skin infections of the muzzle, paws or hair follicles, according to EngBulldogs.


Joints


According to Dog Breed Info Center, English Bulldogs can be prone to hip and knee problems, such as elbow subluxation (loose elbow joint) and hip dysplasia.


Eyes


EngBulldogs indicates that English bulldogs may have a tendency for eye conditions such as dry eye, cherry eye or corneal ulcers.
