Diy Outside Dog Dog houses

An outdoor kennel can provide a secure space for your dog to play outdoors.

Outdoor dog kennels are an excellent way to create a secure space for your dog to play outside without having to worry about risks to its health or loss of your dog while you are away. An outdoor dog kennel should be constructed over the course of a few weekends, since it takes approximately 7 days to allow the fence posts to set. However, once constructed, an outdoor dog kennel is long-lasting and durable, and will provide a secure place for your dog to play for many years.

Instructions

1. Locate a flat, open surface to place your dog kennel. Determine the amount of space you need for your kennel and whether you will be bracing any of the walls of the kennel to existing walls, such as a portion of the house or garage. A good starting size that still allows a dog to move around the area is a 6 foot x 6 foot space, but the area can be adjusted based upon your dog and the size of your yard.

2. Mark the location for the four corners of the kennel. Verify that the area forms an equal square. If necessary, add an additional post for the gate opening to ensure the side can be fully closed off while still allowing access through a gate.

3. Dig holes for the fence posts, approximately 1 foot deep each, using a post-hole digger.

4. Mix concrete according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pour a small amount of the mixture into the holes and place the fence posts. Pour concrete into the holes until they are full in order to stabilize the walls of the kennel.

5. Attach the chain-link fence section to one of the fence posts with fence clamps. Wrap the fencing around to the next post. Stretch it tight using a fence stretcher. Once tight, fasten the fencing to the post with fence clamps. Continue stretching the fencing around the kennel area until all areas except for the gated section are taught and secured.

6. Secure the gate panel to the remaining section of your kennel, ensuring the gate opens outward.
