Animals benefit from grants for animal shelters.
Kennels, commonly referred to as animal shelters, provide temporary housing for stray or abandoned cats and dogs. Animal shelters offer a refuge for animals until they can be reunited with their owners or given a new home. Some facilities will put animals to sleep if they are not claimed in a certain time frame, while other facilities are no-kill shelters and will not put animals to sleep. No matter what type of facility, shelters are open year round and expensive to run. Grants exist to assist shelters
Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant
The American Humane Association, an organization that has been protecting animal rights since the 1870s, offers the Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant. Created in 1969, the grant offers financial assistance to nonprofit agencies for animal shelters in the United States. To be eligible, an agency must offer a physical structure for animals. The grant, which provides funds up to $4,000 to an agency, may be used for the creation of a shelter, as well as for improvements or equipment related to an animal shelter.

ASPCA Grant
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a humane organization founded in the 1860s, offers financial assistance to animal shelters for medicine and operation costs. The agency offers grants under $3,000 for animal shelters.

Maddie's Fund
Maddie's Fund, created in 1999 to assist dogs and cats find a loving home, makes a variety of grants available for animal shelters. Medical equipment grants are given to shelters that employ a full-time veterinarian. Medical equipment grants help fund items such as stethoscopes, examining tables, microscopes and dental scalers.
In addition, Maddie's Fund offers grants between $5,000 and $40,000 for organizations such as animal shelters to develop plans to prevent the termination of healthy shelter dogs and cats. Grants provide funds for amassing shelter data, and for business and strategic plans.

Edith J. Goode Residuary Trust
The Edith J. Goode Residuary Trust, an organization that supports animal rights, offers grants of up to $15,000 to animal shelters. Grants fund shelter management and training costs for animal shelter workers. Funding also assists shelters in minimizing animal suffering. In addition, grants assist shelters to gather data in order to develop more effective initiatives.
