Anoka, Minnesota is a city located near the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Anoka County promotes scrap metal recycling services for people wishing to get rid of metal parts, sometimes for money. Recycling scrap metal encourages ecological well-being by reusing materials that have already been made. 70 million tons of scrap steel, only one kind of metal that is eligible for recycling, are created in the United States every year (See Reference 1).
Instructions
1. Gather your scrap metals. Iron, steel, copper, aluminum, brass, lead, silver, platinum, stainless steel, tin, magnesium, mercury, gold and nickel are all materials that can be recycled as scrap metals. Siding, automotive parts, plumbing fixtures and other building elements are all examples of things that are accepted by scrap recyclers.
2. Prepare your scrap metals. Remove all non-metal parts from the things you will be recycling. These can include wooden handles, rubber tires or plastic add-ons to the main metal body. Also clean your metals of any liquids such as oil and gasoline. Not only will this give you an optimal price if you will be recycling your scrap metals for money, but it will also make the recycling process easier once you have turned them over to the proper people.
3. Find a location. Anoka County has compiled a directory of both municipal and non-municipal scrap metal recyclers on its website. These companies either offer monetary redemption for scrap metal or accept some materials without pay. Alternatively, you can contact the Anoka municipality to find out when the designated garbage and recycling pick-up days are. Although you will not be reimbursed for your scrap metals if you use these services, materials collected on these days will be recycled.
