Hair grooming games are great for times when you can't be working on the real thing.
In times past when a child got the urge to play barber, he---or his little brother---ended up with some serious bald spots on top of his head. This problem has been solved by games which let aspiring stylists perform virtual makeovers, cutting and coloring hair without ever actually touching anyone's head. Other games encourage kids to touch real hair, but with tools that won't cause any damage.
Picture Perfect Hair Salon
The "Picture Perfect Hair Salon" game is for the Nintendo DSi game system. In this game you own your own hair salon and must work hard to keep your customers happy. Your job is to give each of them just the right hair style, so that they will spread the word to their friends and your business can grow. Try some of the thousands of different looks out on yourself and your friends by using the camera that is built into the DSi to add your photos to the system. See how you look with your hair longer, shorter, blonde, black or brown. This game is rated "E" for everyone and is recommended for ages 8 and up.
Stylist Set
Let children groom real hair with this Stylist Set hair grooming game. Kids wear aprons just as the stylists in the shops do, equipped with pockets for combs, scissors and other accessories. The set includes the apron, a hand-held plastic mirror, pretend scissors, a brush and a comb. There is also a play hair dryer which operates on batteries, blows cold air, and sounds just like the real thing. This game is recommended for kids ages 3 to 7.
Hairstyle Makeover
Hairstyle Makeover is a fun hair grooming game with a lot of detail. (Some versions have non-English instructions which may need an online translator.) In this game you are a stylist and your job is to give your customer the look she selects from the style book. You guide the customer's hand to a style, then click with the mouse to choose that style. Next you seat her in the chair, then cut her hair to the proper length. Once you have the cut just right, choose from the curlers, curling iron, straightener, blow dryer or hair wax to complete the look. When you've finished styling the client's hair you can choose from over a dozen different hair colors. Finish the look by choosing some attractive clothes and shoes, sending your client on her way with a smile on her face.
