Men'S Grooming Advice

When it comes to grooming, each man for himself.

There are various degrees on how a man can take care of himself. For example, there are slobs, metrosexuals, and everyone in between. Guys get a lot of slack because society expects them to be the inferior gender when it comes to grooming. It's no secret that self presentation will always be significant no matter who you are- whether you're job hunting, trying to woo someone, or simply seeking respect.

Develop a morning regimen

The reason why most men are sloppy is because they never built good grooming habits in the first place. Some of them also shun the prospect of grooming for whatever psychological reason, but that's yet another story. So, when you get up in the morning, budget your time to at least shower, shave and apply effective deodorant. When showering, be sure to use soap and shampoo. To shave, find a high quality razor and shaving gel or foam. You don't necessarily have to shave all your facial hair, some men prefer to keep it rugged by maintaining a perfectly imperfect 5 o'clock shadow. Take this a step further and add cologne to the mix, but don't get carried away or you'll overwhelm any poor victim who passes you by. The best way to wear cologne is to make it subtle. Also, get in the good habit of applying a moisturizer with an SPF 15 or higher. That way, you can fight aging with the legitimate reason of protecting yourself from the harsh sun.

Visit the barber shop

Regularly maintain your hair. Start by getting a haircut and consider other options, like color, highlight, and gray hair coverage. Go a step further with other forms of hair removal, like neck, brow, sideburns, and around the ear. You can also get your facial hair trimmed, shaped, achieve a beard or mustache. Getting your facial hair groomed can also double as a private lesson for your own future shaving endeavors. Want to truly feel pampered? Consider hand treatment, foot treatment, and a massage.

Sculpt your body

Hit the gym to get fit and healthy. Consider fitness and nutrition as a long term grooming process with lasting results. Go a step further and hire a personal trainer and/or nutritionist to help you achieve your goals.

Take care of your clothes

First, carefully choose clothes that are built to last and look good. Most importantly, find clothing constructed to fit your physique, since every body type is different. Look for sturdy fabrics that also feel good on. Classic designs are always worth the investment, so make sure to build a foundation of basics. Understand that certain accessories can add a clean and polished look. Hunt for a good pair of sunglasses that complement your face shape. Ties and watches also are accessories to be watchful for. As for shoes, consider your lifestyle and purchase accordingly. Own trendy athletic shoes to wear out, as well as nice dress shoes for the evening. Secondly, learn to invest the time and money to maintain your clothes. If they say "Dry Clean Only", then respect their request and take them to the dry cleaners. Purchase an iron and board to keep your clothes looking crisp before you wear them. Visit a shoe shine to polish up your dress shoes.
