Prove your dog's purebred lineage with AKC papers.
One way to prove that your new English Bulldog puppy is purebred is to register it with the American Kennel Club (AKC). AKC papers serve to verify your dog's pedigree, which is particularly useful if you ever plan to breed your bulldog or enter it in dog shows. It takes only some information from the breeder, the filling out of one form and a one-time payment to register your dog with the AKC.
Instructions
1. Obtain an AKC Dog Registration Application from your English Bulldog's breeder. A reputable breeder of purebred dogs will register each litter with the AKC and willingly provide applications to new owners.
2. Choose a name for your dog. The AKC accepts names that consist of fewer than 36 characters, including spaces and punctuation. If you would like to use a name that has between 37 and 50 characters, it will cost an additional $10 as of March 2011. A registered dog's name cannot include words such as "champion," "champ," "sieger," "stud," "sire," "male," "bitch," "dam" or "female," nor can it include any obscenities.
3. Fill out the new owner's portion of the application form. The litter owner's portion should have already been filled out by the breeder and includes basic information about the dog such as its gender, color and markings as well as the names and birth dates of the dog's parents. In the new owner's portion, you will need to fill in the dog's name, your personal information and what type of registration you're interested in obtaining. Full registration is recommended for dogs that will be bred or shown in dog shows; limited registration is less expensive and is for dogs that will be spayed or neutered and kept only as pets.
4. Submit your application form either by mail or online. If you opt to submit online, copy all of the litter owner and new owner's information from the paper form into the online form. At the time that your application is submitted, you will need to pay a fee, the amount of which varies from $20 to more than $100 depending on the type of registration and whether you're opting for additional services such as a copy of your dog's pedigree.
5. Wait for your application to be processed by the AKC. Your AKC Registration Certificate will be sent to you in the mail. When you receive it, look it over carefully to check for any mistakes. If you notice an error, notify the AKC as soon as possible to have it corrected.
