Dogs love to bark when they see other dogs.
Part of a dog's protective instincts includes notifying its owners when unusual activity is occurring by barking. However, some dogs bark unnecessarily at anything that moves. This annoying habit can disturb your family and the neighbors. Fortunately, there are a few breeds of dog that are quieter than others and only bark when necessary.
Basenji Dog
Basenji is a dog breed that originates from Central Africa. Considered to be sight hounds, Basenjis were originally bred to hunt small game. Rather than bark, Basenjis make a low, yodel-like sound that is used to alert owners of strange activity. This breed of dog can grow to be 16 to18 inches tall and 7 to 9 pounds in weight, making them a good candidate for small yards. They are fairly calm dogs that can be shy with people they are unfamiliar with. They also shed very little, which can be perfect for people with allergies.

Australian Cattle Dogs are native to the Australian outback where the were bred to herd livestock. Known as a working dog, the Australian Cattle Dog quietly herds livestock by nipping animals at the heels instead of barking at them. This breed of dog can adapt well to rugged environments as well as a large countryside. Australian Cattle Dogs can reach a height of 17 to 20 inches tall and weigh 30 to 35 pounds. They have a small and strong athletic build and a compact coat that is easy to care for.
Akita Dog
Akitas are a noble breed of dog that bark only when necessary. They are native to Japan where they were bred to hunt game. An intelligent breed, Akitas are known for their thick coats. They are patient dogs that are easy to train and can be taught to obey in a short matter of time. Akitas can weigh 70-120 pounds and can reach a height of 24-28 inches tall when fully grown. These dogs are good companions to both children and adults and get along with other pets when they are raised together.
