List of Large Dog Breeds


Large dogs weigh over 45 pounds. Their behaviors depend on the exact dog breed. Not all large dogs are aggressive. Some large dogs are better suited to be around children than others. Because of their size, all large dogs need room to run around. Without room to run, they can become overweight. The purebreds of these dogs can cost anywhere from $300 to $2000. Some of these dogs can be found at shelters.


Afghan Hound


Afghan Hound dogs reach around 60 pounds. They have long fur that needs regular grooming and sensitive skin. Afghan hounds can be difficult to train.


Airedale Terrier


Airedale Terriers can reach a weight of 70 pounds. Airedale Terriers tend to act stubbornly. They need room to run around due to high energy levels.


Akita Inu


Akita Inus can reach up to 120 pounds. Akita Inus tend to behave aggressively, but protectively. They need daily grooming due to a double coat. Akita Inus are hard to housebreak.


Bloodhound


Bloodhounds weigh up to 110 pounds. Bloodhounds act friendly with few aggressive tendencies. They act stubbornly and need weekly grooming.


Boxer


Boxers weigh up to 70 pounds. Boxes need room to play because they tend to have a lot of energy. Boxers can be hard to train and need groomed several times a week.


Chow Chow


Chow Chows weigh up to 70 pounds. Chows cannot be housebroken, need daily grooming and are very independent.


Collie


Collies weigh up to 75 pounds. Collies are family-friendly. Training is easy. Collies need brushed daily due to their long coat.


Doberman Pinscher


Doberman Pinschers weigh up to 90 pounds. Dobermans tend to be protective of their owners. They need constant attention to prevent aggression. Doberman's need brushed daily.


Great Dane


Great Danes weigh between 100 and 200 pounds. Great Danes get along with children and families well. They need brushed every other day.


Labrador Retriever


Labrador Retrievers weigh up to 75 pounds. Labradors tend to be playful, easy to train and loyal. They are easy to train and need brushed every other day.


Mastiff


Mastiffs weight up to 160 pounds. They are loyal and good with children. Mastiffs need brushed every other day to maintain a healthy coat.


Saint Bernard


Saint Bernards weigh up to 200 pounds. They are loyal and behave well with children. Saint Bernards are trainable and need brushed a few times a week.
