Keep Your Petmate Fountain Clean

Petmate's Deluxe Fresh Flow® Fountain gives pet owners the means to provide small or large/single or multiple dogs, cats and other animals with clean, filtered flowing drinking water. Whether you have a new fountain, lost your fountain cleaning instructions or have decided to clean repair a gurgling or noisy pump or a slowed water flow issue before replacing parts or the entire fountain, Petmate has made the fountain and its charcoal filter and pump easy to disassemble and clean.

Instructions

The Fountain

1. Unplug your Petmate Deluxe Fresh Flow Fountain, remove the pump from the bowl and set aside.

2. Remove the top of your fountain and check the charcoal filter located above the cascading water channel. Set the filter aside in a dish of clean water while you work on the rest of the fountain if clean enough to reuse. If not, discard. Keep in mind that the Petmate fountain charcoal filter has a life of approximately 60 to 90 days (if used with one pet) or less (if used with more than one pet, dirtied by sediment or other debris such as food or dirt or no longer removing any odors from the water).

3. Pour the water out of the reservoirs and wash the plastic parts of your pet fountain (reservoirs, bowl and cascading water channel) with a cloth and mild dish soap.

4. Rinse the soap from your pet fountain and air dry.

5. Refill the reservoirs and replace the filter if needed.

The Pump

6. Check for any debris such as food or dirt clogging the intake slots on the pump. Rinse the pump under clean running water to dislodge.

7. Pry the intake cover and the second cover below it from the top of the pump and set aside.

8. Remove the bladed impeller--the rotor--from the pump. If you can't grasp the impeller, use tweezers to pull it from the inside.

9. Wipe the impeller and pump with a soft, wet, non-soapy cloth.

10. Reassemble your pump, reversing steps two and three, and rinse the pump with clean running water. Place the pump in the fountain bowl and plug it into an electric outlet.
