Although beagle owners love their cuddly, long-eared friends, they know a beagle's howl can be a terrible noise. Anything will get a beagle howling, too. Beagles howl at vacuums, sirens and loud noises. They howl to show affection, and when they are stressed. Once a beagle starts howling, it's hard to get him to stop. Get your beagle's howl under control, when you are or aren't home, by using one or many of these methods.
Instructions
1. Turn on a television or radio before leaving home. The noise can calm beagles down.
2. Place crate-trained beagles in a crate in a dark room or with a blanket over the crate. The darkness can cause them to think it's night, and help them sleep, not howl, when you leave.
3. When you're home, create a loud noise to stop a beagle from howling. Placing coins in a container or taking a paper and slapping it on a counter top can stop the beagle's howls.
4. Spray a mist of citronella on a beagle's throat. The sound and smell is offensive to the hound, but will not hurt him.
5. D.A.P. plug-in wall diffusers emit a pheromone that naturally calms dogs. Place one in the area where you leave your beagle. It will help reduce her anxiety and need to howl.
6. While howling is natural, it can be a nuisance for neighbors, and yourself. All of these methods are safe, and will help your beagle stop howling.
