Alaskan Malamutes
are huge, furry, lovable dogs.
Parents often gift their children with themed bedrooms to reflect and nourish their passions. Whether you own an Alaskan Malamute that your kids are crazy about or if you just have a dog-obsessed child, include decorating elements that evoke the distinctive characteristics of an Alaskan Malamute. Just don't go so far as to air-condition the bedroom in winter to simulate the Alaskan climate.
Alaska Background Mural
Alaska is full of dramatic scenery.
Paint a mural (or hire a professional to paint one) depicting the Alaskan Arctic where Malamutes were first identified. According to the American Kennel Club, Alaskan Malamutes were named after a native Inuit tribe called the Mahlemuts who used the big, sturdy dogs to haul sledges. Draw a jagged mountain skyline along the mid-to-upper portion of the bedroom wall. Paint the wall portion above the line blue and sprinkle it with a few wispy clouds. Paint a wide stripe of wall white, starting at the floor, to represent the snow-covered terrain. Paint the remaining mountain shapes a steely blue-gray and create shadows and snow-highlights using dark gray and white paint.
Malamute Silhouettes
Position several dogs in different poses.
Adorn the non-mural walls with life-sized Alaskan Malamute silhouettes, adapting an idea inspired by a Gifts.com statue of a sitting Labrador retriever. Either sketch outlines of the dogs and fill them in with black or colored paint, or paint the wall around the outlines and leave the dogs silhouetted in negative space.
Furry Pillows
Alternately, sew black felt "pawprints" onto a white pillowcase.
Stock the kids' beds with pillows made from long-haired white fake fur. Fill the pillows with bean bag fill to make them suitable for propping the kids' heads up while they read at night. Or make fake fur pillowcases to slip over their existing pillows on those days when they want to feel like they are snuggling an Alaskan Malamute of their very own.
