Introduce Your British Bulldog To A Different Dog

Introduce Your English Bulldog to a New Dog

English bulldogs are sweet dogs that can be a perfect companion for both single people and families. But due to the negative image that society tends to have of them, they need to be well socialized for their safety. English bulldogs are typically very people-friendly dogs, but they have to be socialized to other dogs. Introducing an English bulldog to a new dog takes some time and effort, but it can easily be accomplished.

Instructions

1. Choose a large area that is relatively quiet. A quiet day at a park is ideal.

2. Leash both dogs.

3. Walk both dogs moving in the same direction. Have a friend walking between them at all times. This will help you make sure that the dogs do not try to approach each other until their owners permit it. When your English bulldog wants to investigate the other dog, snap him back into place and make sure that he is paying attention to you.

4. Communicate with the other person and with your own dog as you walk. Your English bulldog should not believe that he can investigate the other dog while you are distracted or talking with someone else.

5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 five or six times, or until your English bulldog seems comfortable with the arrangement.

6. Walk with both dogs as before for a few minutes.

7. Stop and allow the two dogs to greet each other. Watch your dog's signals carefully; if his tail comes up above the level of his spine, this is an aggressive signal, so pull him away with a sharp "no."

8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 five or six times until the two dogs are comfortable with each other.

9. Lengthen the meetings between the two dogs gradually over time. With older English bulldogs, this procedure will take longer than it will for puppies. Puppies are naturally sociable and interested in other dogs, while older dogs usually need some time to adjust.
