Plan A Disneyland Vacation On A Tight Budget

The Most Magical Place in Anaheim, CA

If you live in Southern California, or plan to take a trip there, a stop at Disneyland is most likely in your plans. In spite of rising travel costs, it is possible to visit the world famous Disneyland without breaking the bank.

Instructions

Tickets, Food and Lodging

1. If you are a resident of Southern California, there are many ways to save money on Disneyland tickets. First, Disney offers 3 So-Cal resident passes at varying price ranges. The least expensive pass covers both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure for an entire year of unlimited visits with the exception of a large number of blackout dates, which cover their peak season. The mid-range ticket does the same, but has fewer blackout dates, mainly blacking out weekends and holidays. The most expensive pass has no blackout dates and includes parking. The least expensive ticket is roughly the equivalent of 3 single tickets to Disneyland, so if you plan to visit more than 3 times in one year and can be flexible with your dates, this is the way to go. Second, other discount options that anyone can take advantage of - many grocery store chains offer discount Disney tickets for members of their preferred shopper's club. Also many companies in Southern California offer discount passes to their employees, and their families. AAA offers discount tickets for members, and active service member US Military discounts are available as well. Don't buy a ticket at the gate at full price before investigating these options.

2. Eat Outside the ParkDisneyland has a slight advantage to Disney World, it's set in an actual neighborhood. Thus, you can leave the gates of Disneyland and walk a few blocks to the fast food restaurant of choice, and even a couple of sit down places like Denny's are in walking distance. If you are staying in a Disneyland area hotel, many offer free breakfast . When you are choosing a hotel look for one that offers breakfast and tell your family to fill up at the morning buffet. Most Disney area hotels participate in a shuttle bus service that runs on a regular loop back and forth from the hotels to the park. If your hotel room has a fridge, you can make sandwiches in the morning, store them in your room's fridge and catch the shuttle back during the lunch rush. This can also be a nice break on a hot day -- you will save money on lunch and also spend a little time in your air conditioned room before heading back for round two at the park.If you are driving, you can pack a cooler full of food and plan to have a small family tailgate picnic. If you're at Disney California and in need of a small snack- take a tour of the Mission Tortilla Factory, or the Boudin Bakery Sourdough Bread Factory. Both offer free samples at the end of the tour, and free food is even better than cheap food!

3. Research hotels on-line for best rate. There are a number travel websites that search multiple hotels and compare rates for you, and the links are listed below. Use these sites to compare prices and amenities. If you are a member of AAA, AARP, or if you have an Entertainment Book, many hotels offer discounts for those organizations as well. Some hotels also offer discounts for multiple night stays, such as stay 2 nights, get one night free. Ask what specials are running before you book. If you are flexible on your dates, many hotels have lower rates midweek and higher rates on the weekend. So, if you can plan your trip on a Sunday and Monday night rather than a Friday and Saturday night, you will likely find a better rate.

4. Choose Souvenirs you'll use more than once.Sure, it's fun to walk around Disneyland with Mickey Mouse ears on, but will you ever wear them once you get home? Probably not. For the same cost, you can purchase a t-shirt which you can wear anytime. For even less, you can purchase a Mickey Mouse antenna ball, which is under 5 bucks and will help you find your car in the mall parking lot.
