Large Perennial Garden Flowers

The Shasta daisy is a large, showy flower that is easy to grow.


Perennial flowers can be an attractive asset in the flower garden. They are flowers that live for more than two years. They bloom in the spring and are dormant in the winter until they bloom again the following spring. Large perennial flowers can be used as a border plant and are often used in cut flower arrangements.


Willow Bellflower


The Willow bellflower (Campanula persicifolia) is also commonly called the Peachleaf bellflower. The flower spikes can grow as tall as 3 feet and vary in color including blue, pink, white and purple. Bellflower's prefer to grow in full sunlight, but are adaptable to partial shade. They are easy to grow and will spread quickly. The plants should be thinned out every two to three years to keep them growing at their best. The flowers are cold hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 5 to 9.


Shasta Daisy


The Shasta daisy (Leucanthemum x superbu) is a showy perennial that is native to Europe. It has white petals and a golden yellow center. The flowers can grow up to 3 feet tall and bloom in June and July. Shasta daisies grow best in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soils. They are commonly grown as ground cover or a border plant and work well as a cut flower in flower arrangements. Shasta daisies are hardy in USDA zones 5 to 8.


Common Rose Mallow


Common rose mallow (Hibiscus moscheuto) is also commonly called the Pyrenees Pink. It is a herbaceous, perennial flower that can grow up to 4 feet tall. It has large, hot pink flowers that bloom from July to September. The flowers thrive in full sunlight and soils that are medium to wet. They are easy to grow and will spread very quickly if they are fertilized during the growing season. They have very few problems with pests or disease, which makes them require very little maintenance. Common rose mallow grows in hardiness zones 5 to 10.


Colorado Columbine


Colorado columbine (Aquilegia caerule) is a tall perennial flower that is commonly grown in the Rocky Mountains. The flowers are showy and bloom in mid-summer. It is a member of the buttercup family. They vary in color including purple, violet and blue. Columbine is a wildflower that can spread quickly and is commonly found in meadows and grasslands. According to the U.S. Forest Service, the Colorado columbine is the state flower of Colorado and is a popular flower for photographers. It grows best in hardiness zones 3 to 9.
