The Simplest Method To Crate Train A Puppy Fast

Crate training your puppy is likely the most effective and simplest method in which to housebreak your pet. Most puppies do not mind being put in crates once they are familiar with them, and crates also ensure a puppy's safety when left alone. If you are consistent and patient in your techniques, you will likely find that your puppy will become crate-trained relatively fast.

Introducing the Crate

Puppies are curious by nature and yours will likely be interested in this new box on the floor. Develop this curiosity by placing toys and treats inside the crate to entice her into it. Do this a few times a day to get her familiar with the crate. If you have a crate in which the top can be removed, place your pup in the crate without the top if she avoids going inside. This can help her to become comfortable inside the area. Once she doesn't mind, put the top back on. Place your puppy's food bowl inside the crate as well, to encourage her to feel at ease in the crate. If you are sure your puppy won't chew, place a blanket, towel or a piece of clothing that contains your scent inside the crate.

Housebreaking Your Puppy

This easiest way to housebreak a puppy is by using a crate. Dogs do not like to urinate or defecate in areas where they eat or rest. Therefore, if your dog sleeps in the crate, she will likely avoid making a mess there. Before you place your puppy in the crate, whether you are leaving or going to sleep, make sure that she uses the bathroom. When she enters the crate, give her a treat as a reward. Initially, your puppy may cry and fuss in the crate. It is important that you do not give in and let her leave the crate because of this. If you do so, you will teach her that that type of behavior is rewarded.

After a few hours, your puppy will need to be released from the crate to go potty. If you are at work all day, consider hiring a pet sitter to take her out. You will also need to get up a few times during the night to let her out. Once your puppy goes to the bathroom in the appropriate area, give her a treat. You can then put her back in the crate and give her another treat. By practicing this routine and being consistent with it, your puppy will become trained within a short period of time.
