Having the proper flooring in your dog's kennel will decrease the amount of time you spend cleaning up after your dog's mess. The dog's comfort is also a concern, because if your dog will be spending large amounts of time in the kennel it should be quite comfortable. Keep in mind, you should not leave your dog in the kennel for long periods of time. According to Capital Humane Society, "A crate isn't a magical solution. If not used correctly, a dog can feel trapped and frustrated."
Base Floor
Go to a flooring store and ask to see their plastic linoleum scraps that are not for sale anymore. If the business allows it, cut out the amount you need for your kennel. Linoleum flooring on the base level of the kennel is completely waterproof and quite sterile and easy to clean.
Mess Pads
Go to a pet store and find urinary pads. These will come in handy for older dogs or dogs that have to stay in their kennel for a longer amount of time. You can place these urinary sheets, which act like diapers, along the bottom of the kennel.
Comfort
Use an old pillow to provide your dog with some comfort while in the kennel. You can even use the urinary pads on the pillow if you're worried about the integrity of the pillow.
