Workout A Blue Nosed Pitbull

Giving your pit bull enough exercise will keep it from developing bad habits and behavior problems.

The American pit bull terrier, most commonly referred to as the pit bull, is a muscular dog with a tough reputation. Despite their violent past and current misunderstandings, the pit bull is an affectionate and loving breed. Pit bulls weigh, on average, 35 to 55 pounds and come in different colors. They can even have different colored noses, including blue, red and black. There is no difference between these dogs. They are all American pit bull terriers. Most pit bulls are bundles of energy that require daily exercise to stay healthy, happy and out of trouble.

Instructions

1. Walk your pit bull every day. Puppies should be taken for shorter walks of five to 10 minutes at a time because, according to Dog First-Aid 101, longer walks can be harmful to their developing bones. Adult pitbulls can walk longer. Pitbulllovers.com recommends walking an adult pit bull three to five miles a day.

2. Keep your pit bull on a leash when you are walking together. This will prevent it from getting injured or frightening other people. Even the best-trained pit bulls can get too excited. Don't walk during the hottest part of the day and take water for your pit bull to keep it from overheating during the walk.

3. Take your pit bull jogging with you if you are a runner. Start with short distances and gradually work your way up to longer runs. Running will help expend some of your pit bull's extra energy. Try taking the dog swimming if jogging isn't something you enjoy.

4. Play with your pit bull in the yard every day. Pit bulls crave human attention and affection, and play will not only give your dog an outlet for its energy, it will help the two of you bond. Play games such as fetch and tug-of-war (which your muscular pit bull will excel at) to burn energy, exercise your pit bull's mind and give it a way to practice instinctive behaviors.

5. Enroll your pit bull in canine sports such as weight pull or disc dog. This will help your pit bull stay in shape and keep its mind active. Sports will also reinforce your pit bull's basic training and provide a way for it to continue learning.
