Choose The Best Size Pet Crate

Training and transporting dogs is facilitated with a crate. A proper-sized crate is large enough for the dog to stand up and turn around inside, but no larger. Dog crates are available in a range of standard sizes, materials and options for owners to choose a crate to meet specific needs.

Instructions

1. Measure the dog's length, from the base of the tail to the front of the body (chest).

2. Write this measurement down, round it up to the nearest inch and add six inches for the total length.

3. Measure the height of the dog, from the ground to the top of the shoulders.

4. Write this measurement down, round this figure up to the nearest inch and add six inches for the total height.

5. Select a crate that meets or is slightly larger than the height and length measurements for your dog.

6. Consider options based on your needs. For example, there are metal or plastic cages that are best for sleeping, metal doors and liner options that can make crate training easier, handles that can be used for transportation or collapsible configurations for occasional use and easy storage.
