Tent-style doghouses are an economical way to provide shelter for a dog.
A dog needs protection from the elements when living outside. A lightweight dog house is one way to provide for this need. The lightest and most economical material that can be used for a shelter is fabric. A simple tent-style doghouse can be easily constructed using waterproof fabric. A doghouse of this style can be built without the use of tools and equipment. Another feature of this style of doghouse is that it can be picked up and moved at any time. This makes a comfortable shelter for a dog, at home and on the trail.
Instructions
1. Measure the height and length of the dog that will be using the tent. Select the poles according to the dog's size. They need to be about 1 foot longer than the dog. The poles can be made of any sturdy material, including bamboo, wood, sticks, PVC pipe or metal pipes. Anything will work, as long as it is the proper length.
2. Arrange two of the poles triangularly -- cross the the tops of the poles over each other forming a "x" shape. The two poles should form a acute triangle. Wrap string or wire tightly around the "x" shape. Tie a knot securely after wrapping. Repeat this procedure with two of the other poles.
3. Have an assistant hold the two crossed pieces up. The small top of each "x" should be pointing up. Place the remaining pole across the two pieces, an end resting in each "x". Wrap the pole to the angles as you did in the previous step. This structure will be the frame for the dog tent.
4. Cut a strip of waterproof fabric that will cover the entire frame. Sew a small hem around the outside of the fabric, to prevent fraying.
5. Sew small strips of fabric around the outside of the large piece of fabric. Using the strips, tie the fabric to the frame. The doghouse tent is now complete.
