The Parson Russell terrier, more commonly known as the Jack Russell terrier, is a small breed of dog that has risen in popularity in both the United States and Great Britain over the last 30 years.
Physical Traits
The Parson Russell terrier, according to Dog Breed Info Center, is known for its "strong head" and rectangular muzzle. Standing 12 to 14 inches tall and weighing 14 to 18 pounds, the breed is predominantly white, often with brown or black patches on the head.
Temperament
Known to be quite fearless, especially considering its small size, the Parson Russell terrier is loving, obedient and a typically happy dog. Given the fearless nature of the breed, it is important that owners establish that they are the pack leader rather than the dog.
Exercise
Parson Russell terriers require daily exercise. Though they do not need as much exercise as some large athletic dogs, for a dog their size, they require quite a bit. A long walk every day should keep this breed from behaving badly while in the house.
Life Expectancy
As is uniform with dogs of this size, the Parson Russell terrier usually lives to be around 15 years old.

Along with German shepherds, Parson Russell terriers are a common breed cast in movies and television shows. Eddie, the dog from "Frasier," was a Parson Russell terrier, as was Superman's flying dog. There was also a Parson Russell in "The Mask," "The Awful Truth," "The Thin Man" and "Bringing Up Baby."
