Nintendo has created one entertaining simulation game after another but not many have been as popular as their Nintendog series. The Nintendog games allow the player to obtain a puppy, care for it, play with it and train it, just like a real puppy. The activities occur in real time and require patience, consistency and repetition, making the game extremely realistic.
Instructions
1. Purchase your puppy. Go to the kennel and choose "buy." You will be presented with a list of available puppies for purchase. You will have a choice of three but if you aren't happy with your choices, you can get different ones by pressing the red arrow and choosing "Breed" again.
2. Acclimate your new puppy. Your new Nintendog puppy will be frightened and skittish at first. You will need to earn his trust. Call the puppy over by touching the icon that looks like a dog sniffing a hand. The puppy will come over. Stroke the dog by rubbing the stylus over his head and back until he accepts you. You will know when this happens, as you will be prompted to give your new puppy a name.
3. Decide on a name and then proceed to a quiet place. Hold the DS microphone about 6" from your mouth and then say the name aloud, clearly and in a loud voice. You will be asked to repeat the name over and over until the dog learns it. The prompts will change from "He/She heard you" to a confirmation message that the dog has learned his name.
4. Practice getting your dog to come. In order to get your dog's attention, you will need to get him to stop what he's doing and come to you. Holding the DS microphone approximately 6" from your mouth, call out your dog's name. When you do it in the same manner in which the dog was trained, he will acknowledge you by barking and coming over. Reinforce this behavior by rewarding him with a pat. You will need to continue this practice until you are prompted to begin teaching your puppy to sit.
5. Practice having your dog "sit." Call your dog over just as you have been practicing. Reward his behavior with positive reinforcement (petting). Quickly slide your stylus downward across the screen. This will elicit a "sit" from your puppy. With the dog sitting, touch the training icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Then say "sit" clearly and distinctly into the DS microphone, just as you did for naming the dog. Repeat until you get a prompt that indicates that your puppy has learned the command.
