German shepherd puppies
are highly intelligent and can learn to obey basic commands at a very young age.
German shepherds are an active breed that require a good deal of exercise. Socializing this breed as a puppy with other dogs and children is highly recommended to prevent aggressive tendencies from developing. Training German shepherd puppies can begin as soon as you bring him home, usually around 8 weeks, but it is never too late to start, even if you are adopting an older dog.
Instructions
Basic Obedience: Sit
1. Put the training collar on your puppy's neck, and make sure it's sized right by following directions on the package. Attach the leash to the collar. This will prevent your puppy from being distracted and wandering away during a training session.
2. Place your puppy directly in front of you facing you. Hold a treat in your hand directly in front of your puppy's nose so it can smell the treat.
3. Begin to move the treat slowly over the puppy's head and back toward its tail. You should be drawing a straight line from its nose to its tail with the treat. Your puppy should follow the treat with its nose. When its head goes up, its bottom will naturally be drawn downward toward the floor causing your puppy to sit.
4. Praise your dog energetically by saying, "Good sit! Good boy!" as soon as the puppy's bottom touches the floor. Give it the treat.
5. Repeat treat luring process and insert the command "sit" as the puppy begins to motion to sit. Repeat the "sit" command and continue in 10-minute training sessions three times a day.
