Scholarship grants For Vets

Many students can receive veterinarian scholarships to pay for college.

Aspiring veterinarian students pursuing a career in veterinary medicine must attend a four-year academic institution along with another four years at a veterinary medical school to receive a degree as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Paying for veterinary medical school tuition can be costly and students have a tough time financing their education. Room-and-board, books and other course materials add on to the tuition costs making it more expensive for students. Scholarships for veterinarians can help to eliminate the financial stress of paying for college.

Winner's Circle Scholarship Program

The American Association of Equine Practitioners collaborates with the Race for Education to provide one student with a scholarship from 33 veterinary medicine colleges in North America each year. Recipients must be in their senior year in a school program and pursue equine veterinary medicine studies, and be an active member in their AAEP; the AAEP recognizes strong leadership roles in these organizations. The AAEP designed the Winner's Circle Scholarship Program specifically to help students with the cost of studies in equine veterinary medicine for future practitioners, and to encourage loyalty to the Race for Education and the AAEP and thoroughbred racing industries. Students may apply during their junior year in an accredited school program by filling out an application and submitting it to the AAEP student chapter faculty advisor at their school.

Zimmer Foundation

The Zimmer Foundation offers one student a $20,000 scholarship annually for studying at an accredited institution for veterinary medicine. The Zimmer Foundation welcomes applicants who have volunteered at a non-profit organization for a year that offers care to orphaned felines. Applicants interested in this scholarship should research geriatric feline care issues because the application requires an essay outlining original research regarding felines. Winners of the scholarship can renew the award on an annual basis to defray educational expenses.
