Favorite Christmas Gifts For Teens

There are some gifts kids will always like.

Christmas is one of the most exciting times of the year for kids. They know that under the Christmas tree in their home are gifts with their names on it, and their imagination runs wild when they try to guess what is underneath the wrapping paper. When picking out presents for kids, some Christmas gifts remain all-time favorites.

Pets

It is common to see the words "puppy" or "kitten" at the top of a kid's Christmas wish list. It is hard to blame a child when they ask for a furry companion after they see so many images on TV and in books about a dog or cat happily looking out of a wrapped box with a big red bow around its neck. A pet can help teach kids about responsibility and caring for others. However, only give a child the gift of a pet if a family is able to dedicate the time towards training it and has the funds to care for one. Virtual pets and animated stuffed animals also are Christmas gift favorites, particularly for children that cannot have a pet due to their housing situation (like living in an apartment) or have allergies.

Dolls and Action Figures

Dolls never go out of style. Every Christmas season there is a new "must have" doll on the market that range from interactive furry red monsters to fashion dolls. Creativity Portal claims playing with dolls can help a kid reduce stress levels. Not only are children doing an enjoyable activity when they play with dolls, but problem-solving skills are also exercised when a child talks to a doll or action figure about a distressing situation.

Video Games

Ever since video game consoles were small enough to bring into the home, they are a top item on kids' Christmas wish lists. The "Las Vegas Sun" reports kids like video games because of the experiences offered. Thanks to video games, a child no longer needs to know play a real guitar to be a music superstar, have a driver's license to race around a track in a sports car, have weapons training to fight with an army or have an 800-square-foot kennel to keep 15 dogs. Today's video games offer social interactions and experiences are easy enough for young users to find entertaining, according to the "Las Vegas Sun," and give users the chance to incorporate the use of their whole body. With the continuing advances of technology in the electronics world, video games are not moving from the top of "Favorite Christmas Gifts" lists anytime soon.
